Kim Kelly began her playwrighting career at 49 - right
around that mid-life mark. She did it because the feelings were so compelling that becoming a playwright was a non-negotiable
item.
Her background is varied: after graduating from UT Austin with a degree in theatre she worked at a local TV station,
producing commercials and doing on-cam reviews of plays in the area.
She was then chosen as a Rotary Foundation Fellow
to study for a year in Birmingham, England. She continued her studies in Cinematography and produced a 30 minute documentary
on a country pub,"Inn and Around," that sported some rather eccentric patrons.
After returning to the States, Kim joined
the family nursing home business. But at 27 years old, she enjoyed dealing with the residents but wasn't yet mature enough
to deal with the employees!
Deciding she wanted to be on her own, she received her real estate license in 1978 and
practiced that for five years. She consequently moved back to England where she and her first husband started a media sales
business.
In 1983 she launched Shakespeare in the Park in the grounds of her home in England as a fundraiser for the
local 11th century church. The inagural production was The Dream - and featured amateur actors from the area as well as local
folk with no experience. Although Kim left England in 1987, she left a legacy. "Shakespeare in the Park" continues to this
day.
In 1987, Kim returned to Dallas and resumed her real estate sales career, investing in condos along the way.
She joined a network marketing company in 1997,and for 5 years gained a good bit of knowledge about people and processes.
She has since moved into the Real Estate, Insurance and Mortgage industries, teaching people how to WIN THE MONEY GAME.
In
2002 Kim hired a business coach, Jeff Combs and her self-discovery continued until mid-year when she decided to become a playwright.
She has two brains: the right one deals in the imaginary world and the left in the real world of showing people how to use
old money they already spend to create new money.
Kim lives happily ever after with her husband, Ted Ledgard and various
animals, wild and tamed.
